Ethos
Plant-Based, Ethical, Sustainable
All of our garments are made with OEKO-TEX-certified, bio-based Lenzing-certified Tencel Lyocell. It sounds like a lot, but what it really means is that this Lyocell fiber comes from trees in designated forests (no old growth trees!) and is processed at Lenzing's solar-powered facility in a closed-loop system (using only one non-toxic chemical, reused over and over again, and never released into the environment). We use only non-toxic, water-based inks for our prints. Our dyes are certified non-toxic and metal-free, and processed in a Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS)-certified dyehouse. We also use a small amount of spandex (less than 10%) to enhance the stretchability of our garments. We know spandex is still a petroleum-based fiber, but we're working to improve plant-based spandex once it reaches the mainstream market. Progress is better than perfection! All of our garment creators earn a guaranteed living wage. From start to finish, our fibers are woven, cut, sewn, dyed, printed, and processed in downtown Los Angeles.
We currently recycle all fabric scraps from the cutting process for use in carpets and padding.
In addition, our markers (the machines used to create patterns on fabric) are designed and engineered to be extremely energy-efficient. Any unavoidable damage during the production process is sold at a discounted "defective" price, ensuring that no imperfect garments end up in landfill.
We only produce small, limited-edition pieces, ensuring we don't overproduce and produce more than we can sell.
Zero Waste
Plastic-Free Packaging
Our packaging is plastic-free. We use 100% compostable and biodegradable post-consumer recycled paper. We don't use "plastic bags" (the clear plastic bags most clothing items come in), but rather 100% recycled brown paper bags and washi tape.
The clothes aren't cheap.
Pricing matters.
Making our products in the USA from sustainable materials is no easy feat, but we firmly believe it's a labor of love. Our profit margins are currently much lower than other brands, and we can't even sell them in other stores because the wholesale price simply doesn't make a profit. We're proud to say we adhere to all of California's strict laws regarding dye handling, ink safety, and minimum wage requirements in the workplace. We also believe that the quality, artistry, and comfort of our clothing are unmatched! Our philosophy is that owning one beautiful thing is better than owning five; we really don't need as many clothes as we think.
